Singin’ for fame
At first, Stefanie and Tracie Fauth may not look like sisters. Both tall, one brunette and one blonde, the girls from Miller seem quite different-until they begin telling stories. Stories about childhood memories, future dreams and a shared love of music.
Fuchsia in South Dakota
It has been four days and everything looks a little beyond ordinary. Few books on my desk. The bag in a corner with one of its slings about to disintegrate after hours of clinging to a loose thread. Beddings arranged one on top of the other. The slick Vanguard tripod I brought hasn’t been moved – its legs somewhat dusty.
From the Right: Gay Marriage
I support the amendment defining marriage as between one man and one woman. I completely understand that there are heartfelt differences of opinion on the issue. For me, however, and for many people, support of marriage between one man and one woman is a deeply-held value, and this belief is not hateful or discriminatory.
From the Left: Gay Marriage
To begin, a bit of reality-there has never been a non-religious reason for homosexuals to be given lesser rights as others in secular society. So try as they might, the Right’s only response to homosexuals being made equal members of our society is two-fold-God deplores homosexuality, and equal rights for homosexuals will upset the definition of marriage.
Volunteer hours prove rewarding
Sixteen credits, three jobs, and now required by a class to volunteer 12 hours? Where do I fit that in? I guess I’ll pass up sleep. After all, this is college and that’s what students do. Getting into the routine of 7 a.m. – 11 p.m. days, I figured out how to wiggle in 12 hours.
Students’ Association finally takes firm stand on something
On Sept. 25, The Students’ Association condemned Amendment E – the silly so-called judicial accountability amendment. “It’s just garbage legislation,” said Sam Nelson, an at-large senator. Well said, Sam. They were right to do it. Amendment E is poorly written and broadly focused.
Empowerment in a tube? Secret deoderant unveils ‘Generation Me.’
Sophistication. Freedom. Independence. Power. Me? I was just trying to buy another stick of deodorant when I came face-to-face with the epitome of pathetic. My brand, Secret, decided it was going to pay a tribute to the last 50 years of women, by designing ‘special edition’ deodorant tubes with a woman from each era, and a word supposedly summing up what the women of that era stood for.
Chicoine, don’t forget students
At issue: New president and SDSU alumnus David Chicoine will replace Peggy Miller. Our view: He has big shoes to fill. But his roots and experience will serve him well, as long as he doesn’t forget students. We have a new president. Welcome back to SDSU, David Chicoine.
An Unbroken Stride
She began running the streets of Brookings as a kid. Although she has always been a Jackrabbit fan, she did not always plan to attend SDSU. Now, through hard work and perseverance, Becka Mansheim is one of the greatest female runners in SDSU’s history. The official slogan for South Dakota State’s athletic program is “Passionate.
Cross Country prepares for invitational
After participating in two meets in two days, the cross country team faces the SDSU Classic Invitational Sept. 30. The classic is the second Division-I home meet in Jackrabbit history. Last weekend, the team split its squad in order to run at two different meets.
