SDSU student, alumni rank as state’s best
Those associated with SDSU always knew the state’s largest university was an incubator for future leaders. A recent Argus Leader piece has further proved that idea. A SDSU student and two alumni were named to the Argus Leader’s “15 Under 30″ list. Sunday’s edition of the Argus Leader featured a four-page piece showcasing 15 young South Dakotans who have already made names for themselves.
Businesses suffer from 6th Street construction
With the ongoing 6th Street construction, businesses are finding it difficult to manage increased traffic and decreasing sales. The South Dakota Department of Transportation, which is in charge of the project, has set up a temporary detour from 22nd Avenue to Third Street and back to 17th Avenue while completing the final stage of the project.
Student Health offers care plan to students
Rachel Reed, a psychology senior, knows how financially difficult it can be to be a college student. But when unexpected health costs arose, Reed’s financial stability worsened because she couldn’t afford health insurance. “Health insurance is just too expensive,” said Reed.
Two VISTA members help on campus
SDSU welcomes two new AmeriCorps* VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) members to campus to assist in the development of service-learning opportunities for students. Erin Bofenkamp and John Anderson will spend the next year working with campus service-learning coordinator Dianne Nagy in an effort to help students take classroom learning to real-life application.
Out of four, which will lead?
It’s all over but the announcement. The next SDSU president could be announced any day, but possibly within the next several weeks, said the South Dakota Board of Regents last week. The BOR and its search committee sponsored on-campus forums Sept. 14 and 15 with the final four candidates.
Regents reject firm’s names for USDSU
In October, USDSU of Sioux Falls will officially become South Dakota Public Universities and Research Center (SDPURC). “The name ‘USDSU’ no longer fits,” said assistant executive dean Ann Thompson. The South Dakota Board of Regents paid Lawrence and Schiller, Sioux Falls, $5,000 to help with the renaming, but the firm’s suggestions were not used.
