Club develops new course

Disc golf is growing in popularity across the nation, and SDSU now has a place for those who love the game. A nine-hole, par-27 disc golf course has opened for play, located next to the intramural fields and across the street from the Performing Arts Center.

Want to be a good Jacks fan?

They are at the heart of the game’s energy and excitement. They have the power to raise and lower a team’s morale. They are the Jackrabbit fans, and without them, athletic events wouldn’t be the same. Whether you are a die-hard SDSU fan or looking for something to do, “backing the Jacks” can be a fun way to show school spirit while mingling with fellow Jackrabbit fans.

The long wait may be over

SDSU has taken another step closer to achieving conference affiliation. From Aug. 9 – 11, Mid-Continent Conference, Mid-Con, officials visited SDSU. The Mid-Con may expand by up to three schools, and officials are considering adding SDSU to the conference.

Ball Talk

The season opener for SDSU football is around the corner. After having a home-heavy schedule last year, the Jackrabbits face a road-dominated season this year. For Jackrabbit football fans, this might seem devastating. Only four games will be played in Coughlin-Alumni Stadium.

SDSU Improves Technology

From free wireless to a new student Web site, technology changes have been more frequent than spam in your junk mail. One new item for students, MyStateOnline, will feature links many students already use, such as WebCT. “It’s a central area where all students can go to,” said Patricia Edler, chief information technology office program assistant.

Summer is DONE

Changes on Campus Brookings’ Sixth Street isn’t the only thing that has changed during the summer. While campus may seem sleepy during summertime, changes continue to happen even as students return to class. The following are some of the changes campus has faced, and some it will face in the future, according to Dean Kattelmann, director of the Physical Plant.

University rates high in nation

For the second year in a row, a ranking of universities put SDSU as one of America’s best schools. The America’s Best Colleges report, released by magazine U.S. News and World Report, ranks the nation’s top 248 schools. SDSU’s placement on the list certainly says something about the school, said Peggy Miller, university president.

Hollywood depicts college life

Movies about college usually focus on the parties and Greek life on university campuses. From the classic party movie “Animal House” to the more recent “Old School,” SDSU students weighed in on their favorite movies about college life. “Animal House” 1978 – R National Lampoon’s “Animal House” is about the Deltas, a fraternity of misfits at Faber College.

Students invited to rock out at Welcome Back Bash

On Aug. 28, SDSU faculty will officially welcome new students to campus. At 4:30 p.m., Staters for State, the SDSU Alumni Association and the University Program Council will put on A STATEly Beginning and Welcome Back Bash. Students are welcome to stop by the alumni building on Medary Avenue and continue into Sylvan Green while being welcomed by many SDSU faculty members and President Peggy Miller.

Former SDSU visiting professor to exhibit prints

Brett Anderson will be exhibiting his highly elaborate, multi-color relief prints at the Brookings Arts Council Aug. 31 – Sept. 22. Anderson taught printmaking as a visiting professor at SDSU during the 2004-2005 academic years. He received a master of fine arts degree from the University of South Dakota, where he was a former student of nationally known printmaker Lloyd Menard.
