Who will be our new leader?

The pool of SDSU presidential candidates continues to narrow as Peggy Gordon Miller enters her last semester as university president. The presidential search committee is currently conducting background checks on a selected group of candidates, and will soon narrow the group further to candidates that will be interviewed by the South Dakota Board of Regents.

Not Soon Forgotten

At 21, former Caldwell Hall Resident Assistant Karmen (Gregory) Lafrentz was in the midst of a life some only dream about. She had recently married Michael Lafrentz, her high-school sweetheart and an RA in Pierson Hall. She was looking forward to a year’s study in Spain.

Sixth Street construction rolling to finish

They are at the heart of the game’s energy and excitement. They have the power to raise and lower a team’s morale. They are the Jackrabbit fans, and without them, athletic events wouldn’t be the same. Whether you are a die-hard SDSU fan or looking for something to do, “backing the Jacks” can be a fun way to show school spirit while mingling with fellow Jackrabbit fans.

The long wait may be over

SDSU Improves Technology

From free wireless to a new student Web site, technology changes have been more frequent than spam in your junk mail. One new item for students, MyStateOnline, will feature links many students already use, such as WebCT. “It’s a central area where all students can go to,” said Patricia Edler, chief information technology office program assistant.

Summer is DONE

Changes on Campus Brookings’ Sixth Street isn’t the only thing that has changed during the summer. While campus may seem sleepy during summertime, changes continue to happen even as students return to class. The following are some of the changes campus has faced, and some it will face in the future, according to Dean Kattelmann, director of the Physical Plant.

University rates high in nation

For the second year in a row, a ranking of universities put SDSU as one of America’s best schools. The America’s Best Colleges report, released by magazine U.S. News and World Report, ranks the nation’s top 248 schools. SDSU’s placement on the list certainly says something about the school, said Peggy Miller, university president.
