Brookings’ new ‘drunk bus’ delivers

Brookings’ “drunk bus” is brilliant. I am relieved that the Students’ Association has managed to set up such a great program. Not only does Brookings have one of the highest drunk driving records in the entire United States, but it’s a college town, and a drunk bus should be a given.

Dozens of students have already taken advantage of this program, and riding home at 2 a.m. from the bars on Saturday night, students dished out nothing but positive comments for their free ride home. Although the program is still new, I hope that more students take advantage of this ride home to stay out of their cars and off of the roads after an entire night of drinking.

Not only were the driver and monitor extremely patient and kind to dozens of yelling and screaming drunk college students, the bus’ seats were very soft and comfortable. The front of the bus even has a trash can (for those emergencies). And the best part? It’s absolutely free for college students.

I hope more students and community members take advantage of this program aimed to keep drunks off the roads and to get us all home safely.
