Rascal Flatts CD saved by “Skin”

Kristin Marthaler

Rascal Flatts new CD, Feels Like Today, was released in September. At first, I thought the CD sounded like a commercial-turned-bad. All the songs seemed to flow together.

However, the band surprises you at the end of the CD with song number 12, “Skin.” It’s a touching song about a little girl fighting cancer. She finally gets to go to prom. However, she wakes up and all her hair has fallen out. Her date shows up with a clean-shaven head. He either lost his hair, too, or shaved his head. It is unclear in the song. That song is one of the most-touching songs they perform.

You can always count on Rascal Flatts for their touching melodies. “Skin” seems to be their most dramatic. It hits close to home for a lot of people.

I like that the lead singer, Gary LeVox, has a very distinct voice. I think that is one of the characteristics that a country singer needs nowadays. A distinctive lead singer is one thing that makes Rascal Flatts rise above other singing groups.
