emergency contraceptives

Klairepearson@Hotmail.Com

To state the obvious: most people do not like the idea of abortion. As a pro-choice person, I feel that it is too bad that we still live in a society that abortions are medical procedures that still need to be performed. It would be great if we could make abortion an obsolete procedure; however, in order for this to occur we must take action. Recently, I signed Senator Hillary Clinton’s petition to the Food and Drug Administration in support of allowing Plan B to become available over the counter. I feel that it is necessary for all women to have access to birth control that they can afford, and by making emergency contraceptives more readily available it will help prevent unplanned pregnancies. As stated in the petition, “…emergency contraception could prevent as many as half of the 3 million unintended pregnancies in the U.S. annually.” I have also written letters to our Senators in hopes that they will support Senator Clinton. I hope that you will also encourage the FDA to make a decision about whether or not to allow Plan B to be more readily available in a timely fashion. (The petition is available at Senator Clinton’s website at: http://clinton.senate.gov/issues/women/index.cfm?topic=planbpetition.)
