Country Kitchen to shut down
Months of speculation ended this week when Mike Siegel, manager of the Brookings Country Kitchen, announced to his staff that owner Lance Park had pulled the plug on the restaurant. On Feb. 28, 2005, the restaurant will close its doors. The closing came as no real shock to staff members.
Courtside fans crazy for game
Everyone notices the fans that get the courtside seats for the men’s and women’s basketball games, but who exactly are these people and how did they get the best seats in the arena? Most of them are season ticket holders and have contributed to the university for a long time.
Canseco profits with truth
Jose Canseco is ruining baseball. Last week in an effort to promote his new book, “Juiced: Wild Times, Rampant ‘Roids, Smash Hits & How Baseball Got Big”, Canseco went on “60 Minutes” and openly admitted to using steroids. He went on to not only tell how he injected them into his own body, but also how he injected other teammates as well.
Jacks win in Bemidji battles
The men’s club hockey team kept it close but long in their battle against Bemidji State. In the first game, Feb. 18, SDSU shot out to an early lead in the first period scoring four goals to Bemidji’s one. BSU came back to score three goals in the second closing the gap between them and SDSU.
Papa Roach on tour, to play in Sioux Falls
Sacramento based band Papa Roach will be performing in Sioux Falls on March 6. Papa Roach, who has just recently returned from overseas, is now touring the US for its new CD, Getting Away with Murder. Jerry Horton, guitarist for Papa Roach, thinks the new CD has a better perspective then the last few they have made.
Adjusting to home
July 4, 2004, changed James A. Gregg’s life forever. Gregg, 23, was in the pursuit of a woman, but her eyes were on another, Jerrod Fallis. According to a source cited by the Associated Press, Gregg jealousy spun his tires to kick gravel that hit the beloved Grand Am of Jerrod’s brother, James Fallis.

The Third B tax is set to take effect July 1 in Brookings. But the Students’ Association is trying to stop that from happening. The tax is an extra penny on the three B’s: bed, board and booze. The money from the tax is used for promotion of the city. SDSU’s mandatory meal plans for students who live on-campus falls under the tax because the meal plans are prepared food.

Letter to the Editor
Since everyone is entitled to their opinion, I’ll let you hear mine. I just finished reading the Feb. 8 issue of the Collegian and I think a response to “Wal-Mart takes over Brookings” is in order. In a college town full of college students, the cheapest thing, although not always the most economical for a community, is going to be the way that most students choose to go.
