One more chance for fun, sports
Here at South Dakota State we have many different opportunities to get involved in our community. There are clubs, organizations, church groups and various things of that nature. There’s one organization on campus that I think is definitely worth your time, intramural sports.
SDSU track season off the blocks
The Jackrabbit track and field team is off to a strong start under first year coach Rod DeHaven, with many individuals finishing on top in the first four meets of the season. The men’s and women’s teams started off the indoor season at the MSU Alumni Open on Jan.
Hockey splits with Dordt
SDSU hockey found some success on the ice this weekend. Friday they added to the win column with a 3-1 victory against Dordt. In a rematch Saturday night Dordt got revenge with a 5-2 win. SDSU currently sits at .500 on the season with a 13-13 record. They face Bemidji State Feb.
Baseball, softball seasons start; new D-I opponents
Although the New Year has come and gone, new beginnings abound with the men’s baseball team and women’s softball. With first-year coach Reggie Christiansen at the helm, the men’s baseball team looks to face a challenging schedule against many Division I opponents.
Campus clubs, organizations have poor participation
There are around 11,000 students attending SDSU. That’s quite a few people. If you think about it, we have a larger population than most of the towns in South Dakota. So why, then, do clubs and programs have trouble getting people to participate? Certainly with the 11,000 students we have we could make nearly every club or activity large and successful.

Letters to the Editor
UPD portrays disrespect Who gives the right to the UPD to be excessive, rude and unprofessional? Most of us at this college are training to be respectful professionals and shouldn’t the realm of professionalism and respect also fall on the members of the SDSU parking enforcement? I have a great respect for those who answer the call to protect and serve.
Blacks overcome multiple hardships
Last winter, Martin Luther King III came to SDSU to talk to students about racial and diversity issues. During his speech, King commented that the only diversity South Dakota has is in cows. Although King overlooked South Dakota’s Native American population, he has a point when it comes to blacks.
Kindergarten lessons come in handy at college
By now many of us have come to the startling realization that Hollywood lied to us. The movies led us to believe college was only a way of paying homage to the gods of sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll; the truth-college is rough! All of the studying, rushing to get to class and sleepless nights can make the week seem like a dark cloud hanging over our lives.
Indecisive girls, excessive boyfriends create lasting Valentine’s nightmares
Happy Valentine’s Day to everyone! I can say it was happy for me because it was the first Valentine’s Day in a while that I didn’t have to spend a sick amount of money. Girls always say they don’t care so much as long as your gift is from the heart. That is officially the biggest lie ever in the history of mankind.
