SA Elections Part 1

Juniors Ryan Brunner and Tim Wrenn were the first two candidates to throw their names in the hat for the 2005 Students’ Association (SA) Presidential elections. Brunner, currently a senator for the SA, is a presidential candidate and Wrenn is a vice presidential candidate.

Valentines for Vets

Residents of Pierson Hall are showing their support for war veterans in valentine form. The hall government invited all Pierson Hall residents to make cards for veterans at the VA Hospital in Sioux Falls. Students had the chance to decorate cards from 2 until 9 p.

Women Power

Women are taking their chunk of power at SDSU and that speaks well for the university, administrators say. Three of the top four SDSU’s administrators are women. President Peggy Gordon Miller, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Carol Peterson and Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs Mary Kay Helling tip the scale to the female side of the gender balance, leaving Executive Vice President for Administration Mike Reger the sole male.

Dairy Bar ice cream hits state

The dairy plant on campus nearly doubled its production of ice cream last year by selling around 15,000 gallons to South Dakota Made Stores, Inc. The stores, formerly located in Bristol, Hill City and Miller, have sold vanilla, chocolate, cookies and cream and strawberry revel since April 2004.

Wrestlers top Southwest State

After two losses on the road, the SDSU wrestling team found Frost Arena a more welcoming venue as they defeated Southwest Minnesota State 21-15. The Jackrabbits started the dual with a quick pin by senior heavyweight Scott Revier. Revier had two takedowns and pinned the Mustang’s Richard Roesler in the first period.

Jacks overturned by Mankato twice

SDSU’s club hockey team couldn’t hold their own against Minnesota State University – Mankato loosing all four games to the Mavericks this weekend. “First period we had a bit of trouble watching MSU’s speed and talent,” said Marty Schipull, SDSU hockey coach.

CPS clickers:

Instructors of introductory biology courses have thrown out the traditional pencil and paper and are taking a new approach to administering quizzes. Last semester, Biology 103 and 151 began using new Classroom Performance System “clickers,” which allow students to take quizzes with the press of a button.

Students dance for CMN

The Fourth Annual Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) Dance Marathon was held on Saturday, Feb. 5, at the Old Sanctuary on the corner of Fourth St. and Medary in Brookings. The University Program Council coordinates the dance-a-thon to raise money for CMN, an international network that helps injured, sick and disabled children.

Beyond Candy and Flowers

So the day is almost upon us again, Valentine’s Day. For many it is a great day to celebrate the love you have. Or even celebrate a love that you hope to one day have. For others it is a day of dread because it means picking out a gift for their significant other.

True friends will listen

Dear Kristin, I love my roommate, but her new boyfriend pretty much lives at our apartment. He eats all our food, and doesn’t chip in at all. He should understand that we don’t have very much money. It’s not that I am jealous of her relationship. He is just invading my territory a little too much.
