Workloads starting to stress students

From teachers to students, no one is immune to stress in college. Most students find college so stressful because course work is more difficult and classes are larger than they’re used to. “I think students and teachers both get stressed out over difficult material,” says Nicole Ryks, 18, an animal science/pre-vet freshman from Renville, Minn.

Beating alcoholism requires friends

Dear Edward, I think my friend has a drinking problem. I know a lot of college students party and drink their share of alcohol, but latelyhe hasn’t done much of anything else. Everytime I see him he at least has a beer in his hand. He sleeps all day and misses his classes.

Man behind the headlines

A year ago, Anthony Robinson came to SDSU with a scholarship in football and a bright future as an electrical engineer. Tuesday, Nov. 2, he was sentenced to two years in prison for distributing marijuana. Wednesday he withdrew from all of his classes and Thursday he moved out of his apartment.

Former athletes sentenced

Two former SDSU athletes were sentenced Nov. 2 in Brookings County for separate crimes. Anthony Robinson, a former football player, was sentenced to two years in the state penitentiary for marijuana distribution. Robinson and his lawyer requested that he be allowed to serve his time in the Brookings County Jail with release time for classes.

Sources afraid to talk in KSDJ harassment case

No one is saying what happened at the disciplinary hearing for the campus radio’s station manager, but Students’ Association Vice President Doug Timm said the media council is accepting applications for a new station manager starting Nov. 9. Timm is chairman of the media council, which is made up of senators, students and faculty.

Senator cleared in voter notarization case

College of Agriculture Senator Ryan Brunner was cleared of charges saying he notarized absentee ballot applications without witnessing the person sign the form, said Brookings County State’s Attorney Clyde Calhoon. The investigation is complete and no charges will be filed, Calhoon said.

Student works with narcotics as a K-9 handler

SDSU student Shawn Hostler knows what it’s like to be dog-tired at the end of the day. The public recreation major works full time as K-9 Handler at Brookings County Sheriff’s Office. The 31-year-old from Blunt is also a full-time student. Hostler focuses on drug interdiction with Deputy Bo, the sheriff department’s certified drug-searching Golden Labrador.
