Faculty members to lecture about trip to India
Six South Dakota State University faculty members became students again as they traveled to India this summer.
They will tell of their experiences in the sixth N.E. Hansen Lecture, “From Cyberabad to the Taj Mahal: A Faculty Seminar in India,” Friday, Nov. 5.
The presentation will be held in the Dairy/Microbiology Building at SDSU, room 100, from 12:05 to 1 p.m. The lecture is free and open to the public. Attendees may bring their own sack lunches.
Ritz Gallery displays an alumni arts exhibition The Visual Wave exhibition in The Ritz Gallery merges the fields of art and engineering at the 2004 Visual Arts Alumni Exhibition of Van Zante Artists and Designers.
This year’s annual alumni exhibition will be held Oct. 18 through Nov. 10 in The Ritz Gallery on the SDSU campus in Brookings.
The public reception is Nov. 5, Hobo Day Eve, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in The Ritz Gallery. The gallery is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Excellence Center appoints co-director Matt Hansen, 38, from Carmel, Ind., has been named co-director of the Geographic Information Science Center of Excellence. He began his duties Oct. 18 after serving as an assistant research scientist at the University of Maryland.
The Center is a new partnership venture between SDSU and the EROS Data Center (EDC). It incorporates the education strengths of SDSU and the EDC, which is the largest data management, systems development and field center for the geography discipline of the U.S. Geological Survey.
Professor receives alumnus awardCharles R. Berry Jr., an adjunct professor at SDSU, received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from Randolph-Macon College, Ashland, Va.
The award honors alumni who have achieved wide recognition through contributions made to society through their chosen professions. Berry has been a researcher and professor of fisheries and environmental science for 30 years.
Berry has advised numerous graduate students, written dozens of scientific articles about fishes of the Colorado and Missouri River Basins and contributed to two upcoming books on rivers of North America.
