Church sponsors polygamy talks

I was having a cup of coffee in Java City when the table topper caught my eye “Think someone with 1000 wives would know a little something about sex? Hear what he has to say. Song of Solomon this Sunday at the Brookings Wesleyan Church.”

When did the Wesleyan Church start endorsing polygamy? What a wonderful topic! Tell us all about the polygamist Solomon forcing himself on his 1000 female slaves, who had no choice in the matter. After the service were they planning on auctioning off the women who show up? What’s the topic next week? Another goody from the Old Testament perhaps? A recommendation to all the daughters of widowed fathers with no son and heir that they should get their fathers helpless with drink, lay down with him and give him a son (since they have no value because after all they are just women?)

How did this table topper get an approval stamp?

Blog bashes only Daschle, not Thune

After reading the letter to the editor “Lauck is paid by John Thune,” I did some research.

First, I double-checked the facts. Yes, Jon Lauck is a highly paid ‘research consultant’ for John Thune and an SDSU history professor

Secondly, I visited Lauck’s blog. True, Lauck posts little more than criticism and partisan jabs toward Senator Daschle. This leads me to question Thune’s credibility: all Daschle-bashing and no “Look what Thune has done!” Interesting.

Back to my research, I did not visit Lauck’s blog once, but dozens of times over days. Lauck does a superb job of keeping up his Web site. It is no wonder Thune pays him so well. In fact, Lauck has new posts almost hourly!

Yes, I said hourly. Jon Lauck lives in Sioux Falls. My question: Is Jon

Lauck driving back to Sioux Falls every time he posts a partisan comment on his Daschle-bashing blog? Or, is he using state-funded equipment to do such?

If Lauck IS using state-funded equipment to contribute to his partisan blog, all while giving us his column, suggesting we go to his Web site, and believing students of SDSU are not intelligent enough to catch on, then I think some of us should be offended.

Well Lauck, we are not only smart enough to catch onto your recklessness, we also care enough to NOT vote for John Thune, a highly-paid Washington lobbyist. Thanks to Lauck, we will NOT forget to vote for Daschle Nov. 2.

Woodbine work costs too much

Believe it or not, I’m siding with the two students who wrote in about Woodbine Cottage, Brian Feiler and Heath Isaacson concerning the ridiculous price of $450,000 being spent to completely remodel Woodbine, especially when it’s coming out of student fees. The money should be used for what it was originally appropriated for, and other means should have been sought after. Like asking alumni and other sources like the historical society to come up with the needed funds.

The building was built back in 1887 and it’s deteriorating and rotten clear through. I say tear it down and build a new one. That was Heath Isaacson’s solution, and I agree. Why spend so much money on something that’s 117 years old. It’s just a building. It’s time to let go of the past and start thinking about the future.

In closing, I have one last comment to respond to in favor of Erin Appletoft concerning a lesbian poster. Amen. Not only does 1st Corthians 6:9 condemn homosexuality, so does Romans 1:24-32.

Blog better than most media outlets

As an SDSU student, I have come to enjoy Jon Lauck’s articles. It is the first Collegian article I read each week and I have started reading his blog daily. I’ve found his research to be better than the media outlets, plus I can actually check out the facts Lauck has linked from his site. Josh Horton criticized Lauck for “attacking” Tom Dashle. Since when does quoting a person or publishing how someone voted constitute an attack? Lauck reports on the voting record and actions of politicians. I think all students should read Lauck’s articles and blog.

Horton’s attacks are partisan

I wanted to respond to Josh Horton’s bitter, baseless, and partisan attack on Jon Lauck last week. I enjoy reading all of the blogs across the state and Lauck’s blog is highly researched and accurate. All of his facts are referenced and his sources cited. The Argus Leader and other papers don’t come close in providing active links to research so that readers can decide for themselves. Josh’s attacks on Jon Lauck’s journalistic integrity are unfounded and below the belt. The mere fact that he signed his letter as the “College Democrat President” shows he isn’t interested in the truth but in dirty partisan politics.

Lauck reports the truth in his blog

Why are the College Democrats and Tom Daschle attacking Jon Lauck? Lauck provides a refreshing change to Dave Kranz’s Argus Leader stories. Kranz and Daschle’s close friendship goes back to the 1970s if not before. How can Josh Horton criticize Jon Lauck for being friends with Thune when the head political reporter for the Argus Leader is Daschle’s longtime friend and partner? Kranz fails to report the truth for South Dakota the same way Dan Rather failed to report accurately for CBS. Lauck exposes this fraud and helps the Argus Leader with the “convenient omissions” of facts. It sounds like Josh is upset because voters are getting educated on the issues by someone other than his liberal gang of friends.
