Digital SLRs are crazy. But there are many factors you must consider when buying one. Here are somebuying tips.
1. Buy the cheapest model you need.
If you only need the features on a $1,000 camera, there’s no reason to buy a more expensive camera.
2. What manufacturer will best suit you in the long run?
Most camera manufacturers offer similar cameras, but if you purchase a camera, you can only use that manufacturer’s lenses and accessories.
3. Make sure you buy from a reputable dealer. If the price seems too good to be true, it probably is. Many online camera stores sell ‘graymarket’ products, which means they aren’t built up to the full quality of ‘USA’ cameras.
4. Get other photographer’s opinions.
A few good sites to check out are www.photographyreview.com and www.dpreview.com.
5. If you buy a used digital camera, don’t pay more than half of what the new price is. Digital cameras lose 50% of their retail value the instant they are purchased off the shelf.
