Golden Key gets award for service The South Dakota State University Chapter of Golden Key International Honour Society won the Key Chapter Award during the international conference, “Unlock the Possibilities,” held in August in Atlanta, Ga. The selection of Key Chapter Award winners marks a 22-year tradition for the Society.

Event held to promote diversity

The first-ever Multicultural Meet and Greet event, which introduced people from different cultures, “was a success,” said Rozhyer Aware, program advisor for Multicultural Programs. “The purpose of this event was to create a network for those of ethnic backgrounds and those that are interested in diversity issues and programs,” Aware said about the Sept.

SA leaders travel to China

SDSU has signed a new student exchange agreement with a Chinese university after a group of students and administrators visited China Sept. 15 to 25 to explore the university and learn more about Chinese culture. Yunnan Normal University (YNU), located in Kunming in Southwest China, has five different campuses spread throughout the city.

Showing livestock gives experience

Show ring knowledge and responsibility are what SDSU students say they get out of showing their animals in competitions all over the United States. Megan Bishop, a 20-year-old sophomore animal science major, started competing with her Southdown lambs as a young 4-H member in Rio, Wis.

Presidential debate prompts political interest on campus

While many students were feverishly flipping through the local channels, trying to get away from the presidential debate, some were watching it. President George W. Bush and his opponent in the presidential race, Senator John Kerry, sparred about foreign policy for 90 minutes in the first debate between the two on Sept.

Student regent discusses food tax

Tony Venhuizen, student regent, spoke to the Students Association Oct. 4 about the repeal of the food tax, which will be on the November ballot. If approved, the issue would eliminate the food sales tax on grocery items, Venhuizen said. South Dakota citizens are currently paying a 5.

Students learn the art of Latin dancing

For two hours last Tuesday night, the Barn was transformed into a Latin American dance hall as a crowd of more than 100 gathered to learn the basics of salsa and merengue. Though the reasons for attending were varied, most mastered at least a few basic Latin steps from professional dance instructor Mary Lou Steib of Sioux Falls.
