Students looking for a part-time job to help pay for school had their chance at the annual Student Part-time Employment Job Fair held Sept 8 at the Performing Arts Center.
Employers from in and around Brookings, such as Wal-Mart, Daktronics, Inc. and Rainbow Play Systems, set up booths to hand out information and applications to interested students.
Employers benefited from the job fair just as much as the students.
“We get a lot of applications and get our name out there,” said Jane Deboer with Fishback Financial Corporation.
Wal-Mart representatives said they handed out 150 applications in the first hour.
There were opportunities for on-campus jobs as well, such as working for the Army ROTC and the University Police Department.
The fair was sponsored by the Career and Academic Planning (CAP) Center and the South Dakota Career Center, which are both located in Medary Commons.
“It seems that the job market in Brookings is doing really well. There are a lot of opportunities for part-time students,” said Susan Fredrikson, the employment development at the CAP Center.
