Hobo in a Box a success

Thanks to all individuals and businesses that contributed to the success of Hobo in a Box 2004, an SDSU Golden Key International Honour Society event designed to raise product donations and promote social awareness of homelessness! The event held at the Alumni Center and Sylvan Green was comprised of 40 SDSU students arranged in five different teams — Team Kristy, New Rock 90.

Church defines marriage

This letter is in response to Derek Meyers’ Reader’s Forum article in the April 20 issue. I have just a couple things to say in response. Concerning gay marriages, you say it’s not the business of the church? And you say the church is not involved in the definition of marriage? Well, I say that from the church’s point of view, it is SOLELY their business

Phelps religion skeptical

In his Faculty Corner column (Collegian April 6, 2004), Dr. Brady Phelps identified himself as a “skeptic.” The Phelps ‘sermon’ defined God as merely a construct of the human imagination — cultivated over time from the human experience of living in “small bands,” then “tribes,” then “civilizations.

Get facts straight on mag

My name is Miranda Malo and my ultimate career goal is to work for Successful Farming. I was offended by the ignorant jabs taken at the magazine in the latest “Pulse.” (Since there is no Successful Farmer magazine. I assume you meant Successful Farming.) A majority of the students at this university come from these nonexistent successful farms that you speak of.

Citizenry needs to stand up and speak out, hippie or not

On a recent day, my biggest worry was whether I could find time on a meter near the student union. I wanted to avoid an added cost to my cup of coffee. That’s all changed within the last 24 hours. Yesterday, my brother was deployed. Brought to you by Stratego of the oil rich-and-famous.

Farmers take pride

I am writing this letter in response to your section “The Pulse” in which you naively insult a large portion of our campus by stating that there is no such thing as a “successful farmer.” First of all, I believe you are referring to the magazine Successful Farming, not Successful Farmer.

Many farmers successful

After reading “The Pulse” in the April 20 edition of the Collegian, I was appalled at what was defined as the “lows of magazines” and seeing Successful Farmer being used as one of your examples. To put it mildly, the article is based off of stupidity and ignorance.

Equine sports will serve the campus well

The SDSU Athletic Department is breaking new ground by adding equine sports to its roster. The University of Minnesota in Crookston is the closest Division II school while the majority of the Division I schools lay on the East and West Coast. About 500 to 600 students compete at the 4-H level in South Dakota.

The Top Ten…

Change abounded in the past year at SDSU, both on campus and across Brookings. New buildings and businesses sprang from the earth, and old ones got extreme makeovers. SDSU hit record enrollment and left an athletic division and an old conference behind. The events of 2003-04 , whether tragic, triumphant or simply interesting, shaped those involved and affected the future in countless and, as of yet, unforseen ways.

Golf Reaches End

SDSU’s men’s and women’s golf teams ended their regular seasons this past week. While the men finished in 14th place at Northwest Region Spring Head-to-Head Tournament in Lincoln, Neb., the women captured sixth place at the MSU Maverick Invitational in Mankato.
