Batter up for baseball

The SDSU baseball squad opened the NCC portion of its schedule in Brookings this week by going 1-3 against North Dakota State at Bob Shelden Field.

Sunday started out strong for the home team as SDSU scored three runs apiece in the fifth and sixth innings to claim a 9-6 win.

The Bison then outlasted the Jacks in the nightcap with a 4-2 win in eight innings.

Monday was frustrating for SDSU as they fell 8-3 and 20-2 to the Bison. NDSU claimed the first game with a five-run seventh inning and blew open the second game with 13 runs in the fourth inning of play.

The Jacks are now 4-15 for the season and 1-3 in the NCC.

SDSU will resume NCC action this weekend when they travel to Manakto to face the Mavericks in a pair of doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday.
