SDSU parking to change with transition to walking campus

It’s a complaint that can be heard virtually every day on campus. There is no place to park here. Well that’s not exactly true. It’s difficult to find a parking spot if you are not willing to walk from outlying areas like north of the library, the HPER and Frost Arena.

Lawmakers approve largest state budget ever for 2005

PIERRE (CNS) – For 115 years South Dakota has managed to annually ba1ance its budget and 2004 was no exception. After mulling over the money for 34 days, the Appropriations Committee presented a $2.9 billion budget to lawmakers on the last day of the main run of the session Feb.

More than 1,000 attend Wacipi

People from all over South Dakota gathered in the Frost Arena of the HPER this weekend for the annual South Dakota State University Powwow. The powwow was sponsored and organized by the SDSU Native American Club. President of the club, Vannapha Thammavong, estimated over 1,000 people attended the event.

South Dakota State University gave Sandra Johnson what it takes to go from the Collegian to the Associated Press in Washington D.C. Johnson, a native of Revillo, SD, came to State because of its journalism program. “They had an accredited journalism program and I knew I was interested in journalism,” she said.

Student moves full speed ahead at SDSU

Vannapha Thammavong sits down to watch her favorite shows on Friday afternoons after class. During the week she’s so busy she resorts to taping her beloved shows, CSI, True Calling and Orange County, and then saving them up until the weekend. In high school, Thammavong was active in extracurricular activities.

A crowd of South Dakota State University students and Brookings community members descended on Cubby’s Sports Bar and Grill Friday evening, but this time it wasn’t just for the food and drinks. Cubby’s hosted a benefit Friday evening for the six SDSU students who lost their home to a fire on Feb.

Musings on a quiet Oscar party

What if you threw a party and nobody came? Such a philosophical query came to my mind Sunday night when Todd and I threw our annual Oscar party and, well, hardly anybody came. Admittedly I was of two minds about the situation. For one thing, I’m never very comfortable being the hostess, as I’m always deathly afraid that our friends won’t “mix” or that people will see how Todd and I really live.

Legislature gives money for Opportunity Scholarship

PIERRE (CNS) – South Dakota students will have a new opportunity this fall. Lawmakers set aside $1.95 million this session to fund the South Dakota Opportunity Scholarship Program. That’s enough for 2004′s incoming freshman and for next year’s freshmen and sophomores.
