KSDJ celebrates decade

On December 14, 1993 … from the deep dank dungeons of the student union, SDSU’s campus radio station 90.7 KSDJ broadcast its first signal into the heavens.

KSDJ was finally on the air after years of technical problems, bureaucratic red tape and funding issues. For several years, the student body had questioned whether a campus radio station would ever become a reality.

Since KSDJ’s first broadcast, students at SDSU have turned to KSDJ for news, SDSU information, entertainment and fresh, new music. Today, KSDJ continues that tradition by being Brookings’ only true rock station and South Dakota’s only full time alternative rock station. KSDJ is now on the air 24-7-365, has an online broadcast available at www.907ksdj.com and has modernized all of their broadcast equipment. KSDJ mainly serves the students of SDSU, but also reaches listeners in Aurora, Brookings, Bruce, Elkton, Volga and all points in between.

KSDJ’s staff is dedicated to incorporating campus radio traditions with the latest music and technology. They are very excited about all of the upcoming changes the station will experience. High definition radio is on the horizon, as well as improved Internet streaming and new listener interaction through websites.

The Staff of New Rock 90.7 KSDJ would like to thank many people for their support over the last 10 years. KSDJ had many to thank for its first broadcast. Founding fathers included Gordon Graff, Phil Hofer, Brian Kottman, Mark Sebert, Eric Erickson and Rhead Smart. Thanks also goes to Dean Jorgenson, Jim Paulson, Kathy Lusk and all of the original and current members of the Campus Radio Advisory Council and the Media Council.

KSDJ thanks the Students’ Association for their continued support and funding.

Last but not least, KSDJ thanks its listeners. Without them, KSDJ would not matter. Their support makes all of the hard work put into the station by students worthwhile.

KSDJ’s staff and members encourage everyone to listen to New Rock 90.7 KSDJ and help celebrate its Tenth Birthday!

Open letter to Libby

I recently read your article in the Collegian that was published on Nov. 11.

First off, since when was South Dakota a town? We are not geography majors, but I thought it was a state.

In your article, you wrote “We live in a state where racism and poverty run rampant and we’re all well trained to turn a blind eye,” what makes you think that Chicago has less racism and poverty?
