Each week when Maria Chona Mendoza walks up the stairs and through the big blue door leading to Daktronics’ Electronic Assembly department, she’s greeted with a “hey, Maria, how are you” from almost all of her coworkers. But her name, Maria, isn’t actually her proper first name.
Nursing students assist at accident
Hours of studying hit home for five nursing students Mon., Nov. 3 when they were first on the scene of a fatal accident. The five students were on their way home from clinicals in Sioux Falls after one of the season’s first snowfalls when they noticed an accident close to Brookings and stopped to help.
Program seeks to slenderize area residents

But they don’t have to worry about their weight much longer. Fight the Fat- Lose a Ton, a program to promote weight loss through healthy behavior, is a community-wide collaboration of the Wellness Center to get participants to lose a ton, or 2,000 pounds.

And you thought your wheels were nice. Cristina Colburn’s titanium manual wheelchair is $5,500, lightweight and full of options. “It’s thirty-five pounds, I just got it weighed yesterday,” she says, smiling. “There’s so much in this chair that I don’t know about.
