Bad Chit-Chatter: Loosen Up!

Libby Hill

Dear Libby,

Here’s my problem: I’m horrible at small talk. Whether I’m trying to talk with acquaintances at a “fun event” or co-workers or classmates or whatever, I’m always nervous that I’m going to run out of things to say or I’m going to have to resort to talking about something truly stupid, like the weather. I end my conversations early, saying I have to go do something else quick, and try to avoid them the rest of the time. Any suggestions for becoming a pro at chit-chat?
