Young Mr. Steckelberg gives you some advice … don’t listen to him
Hi! Glad you could make it. Wipe your feet before you come in. Hey, guess what! College is fun. Lots of fun. However, you better make sure you do it right. You want to start off on the right foot, so that later on when you are lying on your face you can still get up.
School may suck, but not as much as minimum wage, kids
When I was a young man fresh out of high school, I decided to try a career as a college student. I didn’t really know what I wanted to do, but I figured I should learn something. Well, I didn’t learn too much, other than college is a good place to throw money away.
Where to park or where not to park?
It’s the first week in September. The car is unloaded, the bags are unpacked and now it’s time to park the car. But there’s a hitch. Any vehicle parked on campus by an employee or student must be registered with the University Police Department and have the appropriate vehicle parking permit properly displayed.
Growing Up: How to cope with the stress of college
Everyone has to deal with stress on a daily basis, but for students going to college for the first time, it may become too much to handle. Mental Health Counselor Deb Johnson said that the situations that cause students stress in their first semester at school sometimes follow a predictable pattern.
But I’m BORED! What can you do in this town for fun?
Quite a bit actually. Just know the town and where to go. No matter how busy you may get during your academic career here at SDSU, you are going to do something other just study, right? College isn’t all about work. It’s about having fun too. Besides, for many students it’s the first real taste of freedom they encounter.
Leaving home means staying away
So, you’ve decided to go to college. Good for you. This decision has placed you in a situation where every person you meet gives you unsolicited advice about every aspect of your impending collegiate career. That sucks, as obviously these people have no idea what they’re talking about and besides, where do they get off trying to tell you what to do? After all, you don’t need any advice about life.
Organizations on campus will help you find friends and yourself
This article originally appeared in the Aug 27, 2002 edition of the Collegian. All information contained herein is still relevant. Here’s a rundown of what to expect in some activities offered at SDSU. Music Dr. Corliss Johnson, director of music, says his department offers much to new students.
Don’t be a fool!
So you think you’ve got it all figured out, eh? You’ve called your roommate and decided who will bring the refrigerator. You remembered the power strips and two alarm clocks. You’ve got the fan for the Spring and the early Fall. The computer is set up with all your favorite video games and stolen MP3s.
If you’re really bored, think about SDSU’s many clubs
Moving away from home for the first time can be just a little bit scary. Most of the students who show up at their respective Residence Hall during the waning weeks of summer arrive knowing a few students from their hometown and a few acquaintances made during involvement in traveling athletics, clubs and organizations.
Budget 101: Keep your money in line
