Brookings elects mayor, three council members

New leaders will take the reigns of the Brookings city government as a result of the April 8 city election. At the helm of the city government will be mayor-elect Scott Munsterman, a current council member and local chiropractor who defeated fellow Brookings professional Michael Bartley for the chair in the mayor’s office.

City manager earns credentials

Michael Williams, Brookings city manager, recently received the International City/County Management Association (ICMA)’s Credentialed Manager designation. Williams is one of only 435 local government management professionals to receive the accreditation.

City delays Sunday beer sale referendum

On Wednesday afternoon, the City Council voted 4-3 to put the referred issue of Sunday takeaway beer sales on the ballot in the April 2004 city election. Councilor Zeno Wicks, who voted for the April 2004 placement explained that putting the issue on the ballot then would be in “concurrence with what the Chamber of Commerce here has requested, and they’re the ones who brought forward the initial request.

Management jobs open at KSDJ

Campus radio station KSDJ has begun its search for managerial staff for the coming school year. Three positions are currently available: Creative Services Director, a nine-month position that will coordinate public relations and promotional events. News Director, a new nine-month job that will coordinate the news items heard on the station.

SDSU research facility gets $229,000 grant

Groundwork laid five years ago has led to a $229,000 grant that will enable major renovation and expansion at South Dakota State University’s Oak Lake Field Station, located 23 miles northeast of the Brookings campus.

Ad designers address SDSU

“You Can Go Anywhere From Here” is a slogan most SDSU students and many area high school students are familiar with. The slogan is the brainchild of three SDSU alumni, Mark Glissendorf, Carey Grosdidier and Dave Haan. All three are employed at Lawrence and Schiller Marketing and Advertising Agency in Sioux Falls and were on campus Monday to talk about their work as part of Journalism Week.

SA Senate hears report on Regents’ STUDENT plan

Ben Solomon, SDSU student representative for the statewide STUDENT Project, met with the Student Association Monday to discuss aspects of the program relative to students at SDSU. The STUDENT project is a South Dakota Board of Regents effort to consolidate student records and class information into a statewide network available to the regential South Dakota university system.

Model UN honors SDSU students

Several SDSU students were honored for outstanding performance at the Arrowhead Model United Nations Conference in Sault Sainte Marie, Mich., two weekends ago. Five students representing Germany were named Outstanding Delegation. These include: Emily Hauge, Toby Uecker, Erica Hinders, Megan Dahle and Naomi Zwack.
