Head of State: Chris Rock’s Head of State stays afloat through sheer willpower. Every time it threatens to go under, it pulls another devastatingly funny joke out of its bag of tricks.The problem is that this story of the first black Presidential candidate is like every other political movie ever made. For most of the running time, it is an airless little movie that borders on unfortunate political propaganda.But then Rock will unleash a truly hilarious joke and all is forgiven. Head of State isn’t wonderful, but it’s harmless enough and it will provide enough belly laughs to keep you entertained. (Todd VanDerWerff)
