With a tight sound and lyrics that are creative without being over the top, Something for Kate is Australia’s emo incarnation of Bush.
Paul Dempsey, the band’s lead singer, conveys lyrics in the same sustained moan that Gavin Rossdale brought to radio in the mid-nineties. He is the typical strong-sensitive male that wails lyrics that proclaim “I’ve planed it like a battle/ but when I’m done shaking I’ll be simple.” The rest of the band compliments his vocals like instrumental drinking buddies. They feel the hurt, too.
