Jones captures title, four others reach finals in Dakota Open

The South Dakota State University wrestling team opened the 2002-2003 season on Saturday, hosting the Warren Williamson/Daktronics Open.

The event, held in Frost Arena, featured 216 wrestlers from 17 universities.

Senior Tyler Jones of Mitchell captured the 184 pound title and four other Jackrabbits reached the finals.

In his opening match, Jones, a three-time All-American, won by fall over Scott Hood of Jamestown (N.D.) in 3:01. Jones went on to earn a technical fall over Jerrid Bourne of Iowa Central to advance to the final round.

His final victory was an 11-3 decision over Chadron State’s Ben Holscher.

Other SDSU wrestlers advancing to the final round were: Jeremy Roe, a sophomore from Lennox,
