Jacks lose one, win one in Fargo

The SDSU volleyball team was pumped up and ready to compete last weekend after their triple victories a week ago.

After five close games in Fargo last Friday, the Jacks came up short of a win against North Dakota State University. September 28 they came back strong with a victory against St. Cloud.

In the NDSU match, the fourth-ranked Jacks lost in five at the Benson Bunker Fieldhouse with scores of 31-29, 25-30, 30-12, 22-30 and 16-14.

The Jackrabbits lead 14-12 until the Bison turned the tides with strong blocking and came away with a win.

Angie Rime made the match memorable for the Jacks with her first triple-double. Rime collected a total of 10 kills, 44 assists and 14 digs.

It was only the second triple-double in the history of SDSU volleyball.

Shauna Sturm posted a triple-double in last season’s North Central Regional semifinal against Augusnana.

Kelly Hoemann led the team with 17 kills; Kim Bostrom and Wendy O’Neill each added nine.

Liz Archer led defensively with 19 digs. Annie Ebnet tallied 15.

The loss drops the Jacks to 14-2 overall and 1-1 in the North Central Conference.

NDSU advances to 12-4 overall, 1-2 in the NCC.

According to head coach Andrew Palileo, the team is learning from one another in order to function together in a game.

“We’re starting to learn from the new incoming players,” he said.

The team demonstrated this unity at the three game sweep against St. Cloud on Saturday night.

Kim Bostrom recorded a career-high 13 kills which contributed to the Jackrabbit win.

Bostrom, a sophomore middle hitter from Circle Pines, Minn., hit .500 (1 error in 24 attacks) and added five blocks.
