Cavorts, contests olympics planned
For those SDSU students and faculty wondering, “Is Hobo Week pretty much just a cold parade and football game?” the answer is a resounding “No.” Hobo Day Grand Pooba Abby Bischoff said she wants to involve students in all of the traditional activities that accompany SDSU’s homecoming, from events of recent years to events revived from Hobo Days of the distant past.
Bummobile ok for parade
Yes, the Bummobile works. Want proof? Show up at any place along the Hobo Day parade route this Saturday for a look at the new and improved 1912 Model T Ford. “We got it fixed so it should be running through the parade,” Abby Bischoff, Grand Pooba for this year’s Hobo Day, said.
New military theme used, old Bum Band brought back
The 2002 Hobo Day theme, Operation: Hobo Day, is new to SDSU’s homecoming celebration. To coincide with this year’s new military-style theme, the University Program Council has added new events this year. Justin Larson, UPC showcase coordinator, got the military theme idea when he attended an annual Residential Hall Association conference.

Citizens evaluate ballot issue merits
In addition to the plethora of candidates running for various offices this election season, South Dakota voters will also decide the fate of three proposed constitutional amendments and an initiated measure. Despite the presence of four ballot issues this year, the number is two short of the average over the past decade and is a far cry from the abundance of proposals that are on some ballots.
SA discusses year’s first resolutions
The switch to a plus-minus grading system was shot down by the Students’ Association during their meeting on Monday night. The Board of Regents will decide this month if all state universities should switch to a letter system which adds a plus or minus differential.
Don’t vote for wolf in sheep’s clothing
Amendment A, the proposed amendment to the South Dakota state constitution that would allow juries to try laws and not just people, is a terrible idea. The concept of Amendment A has been advanced by many, but the leading voice calling out for Amendment A has been the libertarian candidate for attorney general, Bob Newland, who wrote, “Legislators try to do good things when they make laws.
Advertising intensifies as election draws near
With election day drawing nearer and nearer, it seems no one is exempt from the increase in advertising in recent weeks. It is no secret that political advertising is an important part of the campaign process, but it has never been as evident in South Dakota as this year.
Reflections on meeting the mighty and gracious actor Bruce Campbell
I’ll admit it. I’ve never seen “Evil Dead.” Or “Evil Dead 2.” Or “Army of Darkness.” And it seems as though everyone and their grandmother has seen those movies. Our sweet, slightly sheltered editor-in-chief has even seen them. Upon hearing Bruce Campbell, the star of all three, was coming to visit Sioux Falls, she exclaimed, “Oh, the Army of Darkness guy!” I am, however, something of an opportunist.
