September 28, 1915

Handicapped by the loss of about 30 men, the freshmen were defeated by the Sophs in the Bag Rush held at State Field Saturday. The Sophs numbered 48 men while the freshmen, showing an enrollment of 75 boys, were represented by only 39 on the field. The 1915 bag rush final was: south bag 21 yards, middle bag 39 yards and the north bag 42 yards from the center of the field, all toward the freshmen goal, giving the sophomores the victory.

September 24, 1971

After months of delay the Senate passed and sent to the White House Tuesday the bill extending the military draft until June 30, 1973. The bill was passed by a vote of 55 to 30 with suprising suddenness after the Senate by just one vote had invoked its anti-filibuster rule to limit debate on the measure. Pentagon informants have said once the draft was renewed about 20,000 men would be called up for duty during the rest of the year, bringing the total number of draftees in 1971 to fewer than 110,000.

September 29, 1993

The county jail overfilled last weekend for the second time in its history, sending inmates to Minnehaha County
