Four Jackrabbits set provisional marks

The SDSU track and field team made their trip to Kansas worth it, as four athletes earned provisional qualifying marks last weekend at the Division II Challenge in Emporia, Kan. “The teams continue to improve with each competition,” head coach Paul Danger said.

Augie sneaks up on Jacks

The South Dakota State University baseball team now stands at 12-14 overall and 4-4 in the North Central Conference after going 1-3 last weekend against the Augustana Vikings. The Jacks split the doubleheader played on Sunday at Bob Shelden Field in Brookings.

In our humble opinion…

Good: Frat parties. For those upperclassmen and grad students, remember the days (before the UPD Nazis came to power) when you could go to a frat house, drink your fill of beer for less than $10 and go home with someone whose name you didn’t remember? Yeah, those were the days.

Spring’s rapid onslaught dulls students’ learning

Ah, its that time of year again. You know, when the subject “class” shifts from that file in your head labeled “important” to the one labeled “optional.” College students, tired of having information drilled into their skulls with the jackhammer of academia (and paying good money for it) become listless and disinterested.

Former columnist tells tales from real life

This week, because I’m lazy, I’ve told Jarid Kvale, last year’s much funnier humor columnist, to write my column for me. For those who were curious, Jarid now works at IBM in Rochester, Minn. Yes, he has a wife, and this time, she’s real. Since Brian has taken a week off to do whatever it is that Brian does (my guess: sitting on the couch in his underwear watching old episodes of “Coach” while eating Cheez-Its, at least until his roommates have him assassinated), I am taking this opportunity to make my triumphant return to the Collegian.

Brookings clean-up week provides treasures and much needed items for students

For one glorious week each spring, SDSU students are able to reap the bounties of this land free of charge. With barbarian skill, they pillage and plunder, taking whatever booty they can and drag it home like Black Beard’s lost treasure. Yes, I am talking about the Brookings City Spring Clean-up.

Jackrabbit claims medalist honors at USD Invitational

The putts were sinking for junior Annie Spaulding last weekend as she claimed medalist honors at the University of South Dakota Invitational April 14 and 15. Spaulding, of Brookings, shot 156 to win the 36-hole tournament, held at The Bluffs Golf Course in Vermillion.

Lonestar tennis senior enjoys team’s camaraderie

It all starts with love. South Dakota State University senior Thomas Chiu began playing tennis at the age of seven and still plays for the Jackrabbits today. Chiu was active in several sports as a youngster in Sioux Falls but found his nitch and a passion for tennis.

1971 Macbeth film to be shown at SD Art Museum

A screening of the 1971 adaptation Shakespearean tragedy Macbeth directed by Roman Polanski will be shown at the South Dakota Art Museum on April 20 and 21. Polanski created this version of Macbeth after his wife, Sharon Tate, was murdered by the Manson “family” in 1969.

Jacks finish second at USD

The South Dakota State University men’s golf team added another second place finish to the records April 8 and 9 in Vermillion. The Jackrabbits had a two-day total of 620 at the University of South Dakota Invitational, played at The Bluffs Golf Course. Junior Brian Schultz led the Jacks once again, shooting rounds of 76-72.
