Jacks sweep games

The South Dakota State University baseball team upped its record to 17-15 overall and 8-4 in the North Central Conference by sweeping two doubleheaders in North Dakota last weekend. On Sunday, SDSU outscored the University of North Dakota 23-3 while taking two games from UND.

Five runners participate in California meet

While SDSU’s track and field meet at Fargo was postponed due to cold weather and snow, some of the Jackrabbits were in California enjoying warm weather and tough competition at the Mt. SAC Relays. The Mt. SAC Relays at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, Calif.

Softball team off to a slow start in North Central Conference

South Dakota State University got off to a slow start Saturday in the North Central Conference North-South Softball Tournament and was denied the chance at a comeback by inclement weather that canceled the tournament’s second day. With just one run in three games, the Jackrabbits tallied losses against the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Augustana College and the University of Northern Colorado.

Justin Larson named Mr. SDSU

Justin Larson was named this year’s Mr. SDSU at the fourth annual competition, which took place on April 21 at 7 p.m. in the Volstorff Ballroom. Several contestants were ready to show off their moves and skills in the creative boxer competition, a talent contest, formal wear and stage question.

New and improved ad methods suggested

Which major brand is the official motor oil of the NBA? I’m not sure which one it is, but I bet that there is one (Why?). It is amazing to me how commercialized our society has become. In the same world where there are still starving people, the media calls for the Houston Astros to give back millions of dollars to Enron for the naming of their stadium after the company went bankrupt.

Short-changing SDSU students:

With the flair and fashion that smacks of arrogant aristocracy, the Brookings City Council?and particularly Mayor Virgil Herriott?have adopted the attitude that anyone opposed to the flagrantly unfair Third-B tax Just Doesn’t Get It. “There’s a lack of understanding why or what we’re going to do with it,” said one council member and reported by the Brookings Register regarding the allocation of Third-B funds.

UPC holds Spring Formal

UPC held it’s Spring Formal on Friday, April 19 at the Brookings Area Multiplex, and there was a small group of students that got all dolled up to have dinner and go dancing. The event was attended by roughly 200 students this year, which was about what UPC was planning for.

Shakespearean classic comes to SDSU

Simple. In a word, that will be SDSU’s version of one of the greatest love stories of all time as Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet comes to the stage this Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7:30p.m. in Donor Auditorium. Director JD Ackman, an associate professor of communication studies and theater on campus, explained what the production was shooting for.
