Softball team begins season over Spring Break in Kansas

Spring break is a time when college students can relax and forget about their daily worries, right? Not if you are a member of South Dakota State University’s softball team. While most students go home or travel to some exotic location for spring break, the Jacks will begin what could be one of their best seasons in years.

Studio theater show Equus a big hit

When “Equus” graced the stage of SDSU’s studio theater for 10 performances in the past two weeks, it was a unique experience for more than one reason. The highly dramatic psychological thriller not only kept audiences on their toes; it also was the final show to be performed in the studio theater.

KSDJ DJ of the Week

KSDJ highlights the radio talents of students from diverse backgrounds with diverse tastes. This is the first in the Collegian’s series of DJ profiles, with a new profile each week. This week we did a Q&A with Beth Johnson, a sophomore journalism major who owns the airwaves on 90.

Music Reviews

Aspiring entertainment journalists take note. Genius follows a pattern. Child psychologists have known this for years. Most parents know by now that babies respond to classical music while in the womb or that newborns who are read to in the first six months are more likely to be well-spoken and score higher on intelligence tests.

In Our Humble Opinion….

Good: The bureaucracy that plagues this campus. It’s so nice of offices like records and financial aid to provide students with just enough red tape to hang ourselves. Columnist dispels myths about Mormons

As the advisor to the LDS Student Association, I was asked to write the religion column this week. I grew up as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, otherwise known as a Mormon or LDS (Latter-Day Saint) and never realized how little people knew about Mormons until I moved from Nevada to Chicago.

On-line voting available for up-coming Senate election

As the Senate’s year comes to a close, I would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every senator, as well as the executive board, for making this past year both successful and rewarding for those involved. As we look back on the year, many of us smile at the accomplishments that the SA has succeeded in, the many people we have had the privilege to meet, the numerous campus events that many of us have participated in and the important decisions that have been challenged to us.

Humor guy details perils of turning 21

Recently, an acquaintance of mine turned 21. This is his story. 8 p.m. – Starts evening with two pints from the well and an appetizer at The Ram. 8:30 p.m. – Goes to another bar, has much more than two drinks. 10:30 p.m. – Still drinking at bar #5, and he has started on straight shots.

New softball coach experience provides a strong tradition

South Dakota State welcomes Shane Bouman as the new head fastpitch softball coach. Shelly Bayer, last years head softball coach, resigned last summer and Bouman pursued the role on Sept. 10. “Softball had been good to me,” new SDSU head softball coach Shane Bouman said.

SDSU claims crown

The South Dakota State University men’s basketball team clinched a spot in the NCAA Division II playoffs with two wins this weekend in the Wells Fargo Finals North Central Conference post-season playoffs. The Jackrabbits defeated St. Cloud State University in the semi-final round Friday night and followed up with a victory over the University of North Dakota Saturday in the conference championship.
