Economics Club helps members

Are you looking for ways to prepare yourself for the future? Do you wish to find out what employers near and far are seeking in potential employees? If you are in an economics related major, you will find such in the Economics club at SDSU. This club is geared toward helping students explore the world of business.

Job hunting easy for nursing majors

South Dakota has an increasing shortage of nurses in the state, according to the Dean of Nursing Roberta Olson. South Dakota is not in a severe shortage yet, but if something isn’t done to increase the number of graduates, there will be a big problem, she said.

The price of convenience

Aramark, the provider of SDSU’s dining services, is the butt of many student jokes. As in the Capers skit, some students believe Aramark charges outrageously high prices for even a single French fry. Sophomore Carlos Flores lives in the student apartment Berg and opted not to purchase a meal plan.

Honor societies more than GPA

Many of the honorary societies on campus are selective, and only take into account certain people in certain majors. They are so specific that it’s hard to find something for everyone, but it’s less difficult when you are looking in the right places.

Fraternities, sororities give “real-world” experience

Are you looking for an opportunity to meet new friends, obtain academic assistance, become more involved with the campus and community and acquire many lifetime skills? If so, perhaps you should consider joining one of SDSU’s fraternities or sororities. Jeremy Hurd, president of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon, credits his academic achievements to the fraternity.

Fund helps bring speakers to campus

The fund is part of the budget of the Student Association(SA), which distributes the student fees to various clubs and organizations at SDSU.

Whatever you do, don’t give advice

As strange as it sounds, hassle-free furniture stores often pester you into buying expensive futons. This is just a warning to all who dare venture into the realm of furniture purchases. It has nothing to do with anything else. NOTHING. Anyone who thinks a hidden message telling them to walk around campus naked exists somewhere in the above text is just plain old foolish.

Horror of Valentine’s Day soon to be upon us

With Santa vacationing in Florida, Independence Day a distant vision and Thanksgiving almost 300 days away, I cringe at the thought of the upcoming holiday. Those of us who figure that the best holidays of the year should be spread out a little more are left to deal with those annual celebrations where big bucks are spent on flowers that will wither in five days and candy that will make our loved ones fat.

Got Caffeine? New coffee shop offers selection of drinks, food

There is a new business in town sure to warm you up. The Lodge Espresso and Coffee Shop, located at 408 5th Street opened for business Feb. 4. A second location will open in the future with a drive up location. The business is owned by long-time Brookings resident Jeanne Stuefen.

Student returns from Tour of Duty

Rusty Olson is glad to be in school. After five months in a foreign country, who wouldn’t be glad to be back in America? Olson, a construction management major at SDSU, is in the Minnesota National Guard. In January 2001, he volunteered for a five month tour of duty in Kuwait.
